My journey to New York Fashion Week began with a friend I met through networking. She had been following my work on Instagram and was impressed by what she saw. When she had the chance to work with The Lab and collaborate with up-and-coming designers, she invited me to be a lead stylist. It was a childhood dream come true! As a girl growing up in Idaho, I always dreamed of escaping the small down for the big city.
As a salon owner, the idea of New York and the fashion industry seemed like a distant fantasy. Imagine, me from a small town working the runways and behind the scenes at fashion week—unbelievable yet incredibly real.
First Impressions of New York Fashion Week: Overwhelmed and Inspired
When I first arrived in New York, I was filled with a mix of excitement and anxiety. The city’s energy was electrifying, and the sheer scale of everything—from the towering skyscrapers to the bustling streets—was almost overwhelming.
Walking down Fifth Avenue felt like stepping into a cinematic dream. Every corner revealed something incredible: chic boutiques, historic landmarks, and some of the most stylish people I had ever encountered. Dining at restaurants owned by the world’s best chefs was an unforgettable experience, and the fusion of history and cutting-edge fashion made me fall in love with the city instantly.

Backstage at the shows is an experience like no other. It’s an adrenaline-fueled whirlwind of hair, makeup, nails, and clothes—pure chaos that somehow transforms into art. It’s essential to check your ego at the door to let the art shine through.

The first show I worked on was a whirlwind. Backstage was a frenzy of activity: models darting in and out, makeup artists working their magic, and designers making last-minute adjustments. Amid the chaos, there was a palpable sense of excitement and creativity. Our team was tasked with bringing a designer’s vision to life through hair, and the stakes felt incredibly high.
